The components that take advantage of the new firmware is the WiFi card, Bluetooth module and the modem 3G/HSPA (present on the long EeePC 1101H GO).

Despite being designed for Windows XP, the current netbook with Intel Atom allow you to use Windows 7 without major problems. This early update (the release of the new Microsoft operating system is in fact scheduled for 22 October) could mean the Asus will make it easier to transition to the new Seven, or the imminent presentation of a EeePC 1101HA Windows 7 pre-installed.

The new BIOS (ver. 0313) can be downloaded as compressed archive from the support site of the house or through the Asus Update software.

In recent days, Peter Robinson has announced the availability of a new branch of Fedora, called the Mini, optimized for small netbooks. Derived from Fedora 12 Alpha, stands as an objective the creation of a new lightweight version is compatible with the hardware of the mini laptops by exploiting the excellent foundations and features of Moblin Linux, the distro “made in Intel” destined to become one of the systems operational interest to the industry.

The news was in the air, especially after the recent announcements on projects Moblin Netbook Remix and Linpus Moblin. Fedora Mini is currently under development, but there must be mentioned that even the same Moblin and Fedora 12 are still very young.

Hardware support (here is the complete list) includes all the atoms produced up to now, the Via C7 el ‘AMD Geode LX. I also support all the Intel GMA and any type of display, while compatibility with the WiFi chipset is reviewed.

Fedora 12 + Moblin it might be a good match, do not you think?

With the release of Windows 7 (end of October), most of the especially netbook users, just like you, will want to upgrade their operating systems. Whether they have Windows XP or Vista. Actually, almost all of the netbook users are going to change their OS because, Windows 7 Starter Edition is made for specifically for netbooks to make them more quicker and comfortable. That’s why, i think, now you are doing this because of this. But, as all you know netbook do not have DVD driver and how can you install new operating system to them? Let’s check it out.

1) First of all, you need to download a program which is called A bootable USB and here is the links for download it.

Download Link (Rapidshare)

Download Link (Mediafire)

Download Link (Skydrive)

2) After you download, install the program on your computer.

3) Check USB drives by program. A list of drives will appear in the combo box.

Note: drives under 4 GB will not be shown as they are not supported and the list will show only formatted drives which means you have to acquire a new USB drive:)

4) Before you go, format your USB drive.

5) Choose the version which you want to install Windows 7. If you chose DVD version, insert your DVD into drive or simply mount your ISO to any virtual drive. Click on Check DVD button and then Start DVD button. If you chose ISO version, click on Open ISO button and browse for your ISO file. After opening ISO click Start ISO button.

6) That is all, now you have a bootable USB drive. All you have to do is restarting your netbook and choosing your USB to boot your mini notebook.

[Check USB] drives. A list of drives will appear in the combo box.

I do not like software test that never show a peculiar and extreme use of a machine, they have the advantage of synthesizing a legible results. Legitreview has used such tests to compare performance EeePC 1005HA Windows XP and Windows 7. The site gives very little information on installing itself except that the ACPI management of energy saving machine requires special handling. It is not clear how much of the original software from Asus is present when testing the machine under Windows XP. Still, the result is to the advantage of Windows XP for the autonomy of the machine.

This advantage is low, additional 10 minutes, in IDLE mode where it does not operate the machine. 26 minutes more video playback, but it’s important we do not really know what causes such a change. The software suite, the Super Hybrid Engine, has been installed in the test Windows 7?

If so, if everything has been done in the state of the art, it is a very bad news. The latest generation of machine displaying almost a half-hour autonomy and less with Windows 7, the loss is important for an operating system that will cost more to the user.

On these last there tests of software power and graphics processor, the results are more mixed.. They are sometimes in favor of Windows 7 and other times in favor of XP. These tests are quite unrepresentative of the actual use of a computer by a human being, I think the performance difference will not change much. Perhaps it is indeed the problem, why pay more for an operating system like Windows 7 if the result is the same under Windows XP?

It is still only the beta of Windows 7, not the final system, Microsoft has a few more weeks to improve performance or at least make them in every way equal to those of XP. The additional costs generated by the new version of Windows could then be offset by new services it offers. If this is not the case, it will be difficult to convince manufacturers and buyers of the value thereof.
