My Netbook World, the #1 netbook blog, is announced that has been acquired by Google.

This acquisition will strengthen the Google’s “Blogging Network” and from now on more netbook posts will be published on My Netbook World in a more frequent way.

It is also known that this acquisition costs $1M for Google and founder of My Netbook World, Mehmet Akyol does not know what to do with this amount of money. However, after selling My Netbook World, it is clear that he would give more focus on his brand new blog: Tablet PC Freaks and he would probably drop out the university.

After trying out Ubuntu Netbook Edition, I just want to give Linux Mint 10 Julia Edition a try on my netbook. Linux Mint is just another Linux distribution which mostly focuses on usability. I am going to install Linux Mint 10 on my Acer Aspire AO532H with 1.66Ghz Intel Atom N450 and 1GB of RAM. So, before no more ado, let’s get started!

First, download Linux Mint 10 on its website. You can choose whichever version you want but my choice of version is The Standard Version with 32-bit platform. (Here is a direct link for 32-bit version.)

After downloading your Linux Mint 10 Julia as a .iso file, please also download a little program called Universal USB Installer from here and run it. You will see a screen as below.

Please choose which Linux distribution you want to install, in our case choose Linux Mint 10, and select your .iso file and USB flash drive as needed. Then click Create!

After you prepared your USB drive, restart your netbook and boot it on your USB. You will see a screen that asks what to do. Choose Start Linux Mint. Then your netbook will be started and you will see the following screen. Click Install Linux Mint.

Then you are going to configure in which language you want to install Linux Mint.

Then you will see a warning screen that suggest you to have at least 2.6GB of free space, to plug your netbook in to a power source and to connect to the Internet.

Then you are going to make allocation part. Please choose advanced allocation and specify a proper space for Linux Mint 10. However, if you want to install Linux Mint 10 on your whole drive, you can just choose that selection as well.

I allocate roughly 45GB for Linux Mint 10 but you can choose whatever you want but I suggest you to not to allocate less than 15GB. Click Install Now!

That is it! After waiting some time, your netbook will restart and you are ready to use your brand new Linux Mint OS!

Discovering The Most Efficient Netbook For You

Talk about netbooks is something easy, cool and progressive. The conventional world we are living today requires of the use of lightweight, slickly and portable gadgets that help us to complement our busy lives. Nowadays, netbooks are playing a very important role in the life of professionals that need versatility, fastness and comfort each single day. Business people are getting the most out of netbooks when they are traveling and this is something that helps you have control of everything. Sometimes you need a powerful computer to make slide presentations to your customers and you have a tiny baggage.

With your netbook you can travel and move everywhere trusting you have in just 8 inches everything you need to make an outstanding work. According to several researches we have found the people are choosing a netbook when attempts to get a new computer. The reasons are obvious and portability and comfort is a priceless thing even though we have to sacrifice a bit of processor and memory power. Despite of these technical specifications I think that netbooks work pretty fine and you can write a lot, browse the web, download songs, make video streaming and everything is fine over there. Now, I would like to show you some of the most important things you should have in mind in order you can choose best and most efficient netbook for you.

Design: The design is one of the most significant thing in a netbook because thanks to its portability is something you carry everywhere with you and is important it has a good look. Also, its design shouldn’t be observed uniquely from the aesthetical perspective but functionality. Design is very important because depending on it, you can feel comfortable when you are using the keyboard or not. In other words, design has its impact in comfort.

Features: Everybody should know there are some characteristics that a good and efficient netbook should have. For instance, netbooks should have web cam and this is something that particularly most of them include but not all of them has built-in Bluetooth port and this is a very important feature because facilitate the connection between mobile phones and your netbook. All the features that make you the life easier are the ones you must evaluate and compare when you are willing to choose a netbook for you. If you are looking for a netbook because you are often flying to different cities but need communicate with your sellers through Skype, a computer is an integrate microphone is not the best option for you. Can you imagine that everybody listed what your sellers are talking to you? A more discrete way of communication is always better.

Performance: The performance is one of the most important aspects in efficiency. When you have a netbook with a powerful dual-core processor, with at least 1GB RAM –but 2GB of RAM is much better—and at least 250GB in hard disk you will have a good performance. Nevertheless, there are other elements that affect your good performance. For instance, you laptop should have installed a good Anti-Spyware, a powerful Anti-Virus and an efficient Firewall in order your netbook is both protected and with good performance.

Battery Life: As we are living in the world of portability we should know how important battery life is for us. When you are going to buy a laptop, try to read about the one that offer you the longer battery life. You can find in the market netbooks that are able to give you up to 4 hours.

Guarantee, Service and Support: Guarantee is something that can help us to save money and above all protect the money we have invested. It is good that you can even evaluate how good is service, support and what they include. It is also important that, when purchasing a netbook computer, researching wireless internet providers by zip code can be helpful when buying wireles internet.

It has a 11.6- Inch display.

Additionally, it comes with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. And its battery life last nearly 5 hours.

Here is a video review of Acer Ferrari One from Cnet. Let’s have look at the video.

About the price, Acer One laptop seems little expensive than the regular netbooks, it has price tag of £429. Overall, it is not the best laptop out there that you can find but the most important thing about this laptop is the Ferrari label. I think that is the reason its price is a bit high.

Finally, if you are looking for a better netbook than this one, I strongly suggest you to check out 10 Best 10-Inch Netbooks or if you are not sure how to choose your netbook, I recommend you to get our Netbook Buyer’s Guide.

Netbook vs Laptop? This is the question everyone try to solve. Nowadays, if people who are considering to buy a new laptop, will be confused by choosing a netbook or laptop. Actually, this question has a simple answer according to how will you use it. As you know there are some differences between a netbook a laptop. And let’s look at some of them.

Screen Size

Basically netbooks have smaller screen size than laptops. Today, an average netbook has 10 inch display and it ranges from 8 to 12 inches. On the other hand, laptops have bigger screens.

Battery Life

Netbooks have more long battery life than general laptops. For instance, recently Nokia introduced a netbook (Booklet 3G) whose battery last up to 12 hours. But you cannot find a laptop which has a battery life close to a netbook.

Cost

The most netbooks are $300-500. If you are more likely to buy a cheaper notebook, you can choose a buying a netbook; however, you will pay more for a laptop, although you can find free laptops with mobile broadband on offers.

Usability

We said netbooks are cheaper than laptops, however you should consider that you cannot use a netbook instead of a place where you use a laptop. Which means you cannot use a Photoshop on a netbook, you have to buy a laptop for those kind of programs.

Mobility

As you can realize netbooks are very small you can carry them where ever you like. Also netbooks are very light, they weighs generally 1 or 1,5 kg.

Keyboard Comfort

Because of the their size, netbooks have small keyboards and which make them less comfortable than laptops. But, you do have to take into consideration a netbook’s general comfort especially to easy-carry-use of netbooks.

So, i hope you can have more precise opinion about netbook vs laptop!

And here is the netbook definition from Oxford Dictionary, “a small laptop computer designed primarily for accessing Internet-based applications“. Yes, it is clear that there are some shortcomings in this definition but we may agree that this definition is fine for the general understanding of what is netbook.

Additionally, what exactly is called a netbook is still very controlversial issue, since some people limit the netbook size with just 10 inches and some want to increase the size range to 12 inch.

And the last thing i wanna say is one of the words that is added to the Oxford Dictionary except from netbook is vuvuzela. The definition of the vuvuzela is “the horn instrument which became the sound of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa“.

In January, 2009 MSI had launched the MSI X320, which looks an awful lot like a MacBook Air. It has a 13.4 inch, 1366 x 768 display and its super thin and light, measuring less than an inch thick, and weighing about 2.9 pounds. But unlike the MacBook Air, the MSI X320 runs on an Intel Atom Z520 CPU.

It features optional 3G / WiMAX module, 802.11b/g/n, three USB ports, an Ethernet port, VGA out, and a card reader. The presence of connectivity options definitely makes it altogether enticing for those scouting a continually connected ultraportable.

The X320 (starting at $700) gets gifted with a less exciting 1.6GHz Atom Z530, which means two things: It would not exactly be a speed demon but it will be a lot cheaper than the Air.

MSI X320 vs. the MacBook Air:

Graphic processor: MacBook Air sports Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor with 144MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory whereas X320 has Intel GMA500 graphic processor.

Display: The X320 is a 13-inch laptop, meaning it houses a 13-inch widescreen. It uses the 16-by-9 form factor, as is common in HDTVs, and its monitor is rated at 1,366×768 resolution; the Air, meanwhile, is designed in a 16-by-10 form factor with a 1,280×800 resolution. The LED screen is bright and pleasant to look at, not much different than the Air’s.

Weight: X320 weighs 2.9 pounds whereas Air is heavier with 3.0 pounds.

Thinner than a MacBook Air? It measures 1.98cm at its thickest point (the MacBook Air is a mere 1.94cm), slimming down to a skinny 6mm at its thinnest point (compared to 4mm for the MacBook Air).

Storage: X320′s hard drive is a 160-GB, 5,400 RPM expandable to 250 GB, whereas Air supports 80GB ATA 1.8″ 4200-rpm HDD or 64GB SSD.
Processor: The X320 is powered by a 1.6 GHz, Intel Atom Z530 processor, which means it is using Intel’s Silverthorne platform complete with the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 500 chipset. The Air sports a 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Merom.

Memory: Air has 2GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM soldered to the logicboard, which is similar to the X320′s DDR2-667 up to 2GB memory.

Wireless networking: Air has integrated AirPort Extreme supports 802.11a/b/g and draft-n, But X320 connects wirelessly using 802.11b/g/n.

Wired Ethernet: present in X320 but Air lacks it.

Battery life: MSI suggests that netbook can run for 10 hours whereas MacBook Air barely runs for 4.5 hours.

USB ports: three in X320 while Air has just one.

Camera: Air has Built-in iSight, 640×480 pixel resolution camera whereas X320 has 1.3 MP camera.

Dimensions: Air’s dimensions are 8.94 in D × 12.8 in W × 0.16–0.76 in H and X320 has 8.8 in D × 12.9 in W × 0.7 in H.

Keyboard: X320′s keyboard appears to be full sized, with standard proportions, instead of the non-adjoining keys that the Air uses, it has Backlit full-size keyboard with ambient light sensor.

Bluetooth: X320 has Bluetooth V2.0 EDR, Air sports built-in 2.1 EDR.

Video Port: Air has one Micro-DVI video port (adapters are included for VGA or DVI monitors up to 1920 by 1200 pixels) whereas X320 also has D-SUB video port.

Card reader: X320 has 2 in 1 SD/MMC card reader, while Air lacks it.

Price: X320- started from $700 whereas Air costs $1799 for the present model which supports NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory.

Color Available: The MSI X-Slim X320 will be available later this year. The X320 will come in three different colors “champagne gold”, “pearl white” or “stylish black” models. But Air is available only in silver grey which consist of highly recyclable aluminum.

Bottomline

MacBook Air runs Intel Core 2 Duo thus coming as a performing machine whereas MSI X320 running on Atom can be taken as netbook. Besides, this wireless connectivity options are coming with more latest options available like /n.

If processors are left unconsidered, MSI has many pluses on MacBook air. MSI supports better battery life of around 10 hours (related sources say so), has a better web cam supporting 1.3MP against 640×480 pixel resolution iSight that Air supports. It is lighter than Air and is just thicker than Air in terms of fraction of cm.

MSI has three USB ports where as Air has just one port. Against, NVIDIA GeForce9400M, MSI supports Intel GMA 500 graphics processor but is also speculated that the X320 might also be equipped with NVIDIA’s Ion platform, which would slave in the GPU to enhance multimedia processing power.

If keyboard typing comfort is accounted, typing is no problem with MSI X320. Also, MSI supports 160 GB hard drive which is expandable to 250 GB whereas Air only offers 80 GB hard drive.

The very basic offering by MSI is replaceable battery against the Air’s non removable battery.

The bottom line of all this discussion is you are paying half of the money as for MacBook Air. Air costs you $1,600 price and the cheaper Intel Atom platform clone, the MSI X320 can potentially dip below $800. It’s the closest anyone has come to ripping off Apple, which by itself deserves a lot of credit.

When first introduced, their original intent was not to be a popular, portable internet and computing device that so many would fall in love with, but instead as an inexpensive option for third world countries’ education systems. OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) led the charge, beginning their production of low cost, durable and easy to use netbooks but after selling a large quantity (around 300,000) in a short time, other big names in computer manufacturing such as Dell and Acer decided to try their hand at this as well. Since their release in 2007, netbooks have continued to grow in popularity with sales jumping to new highs every year. This being said, netbooks have not been without their problems but despite these setbacks, netbooks have the opportunity to be a consumer favorite for the everyday user here in the near future.

Yes, netbooks are very cool, they are a computer that ranges in size from a 7-11 inch screen weighing anywhere from 1-4 pounds with the majority of them having wifi capabilities, with some of the new ones including new features such as Bluetooth, cameras and SSD (solid state hard drives). Another feature that makes them even more popular is the price. Right now, the average price for a netbook ranges anywhere from $200-$300 which is a couple hundred less than a lot of laptops.

Despite these attractive features, there have been some problems brought up concerning these computers. One of these issues is the screen size and resolution, which makes viewing web pages or whatever else you are doing on your netbook inconvenient. Another issue is the fact that most netbook keyboards are a fraction of the size of a full size laptop making typing uncomfortable (I wouldn’t recommend writing a research paper on one!) The fact of the matter is, with the compact size and price; sacrifices had to be made to accomplish what the manufacturers set out to do, so not everyone is pleased.

Honestly though, with sales jumping from year to year since their release, it is hard to tell (despite some scathing reviews) how happy or unhappy consumers are. A big factor (regardless of popularity) that has influenced their jump in sales is the ever evolving market of web based applications allowing even more to be done on netbooks. As of right now however, people are still critical, worrying about lack of the hard drive and RAM capabilities of a laptop but advances are being made in the field of netbooks just like other technology fields, hopefully making these issues disappear.

Netbooks, I feel are here to stay, no they aren’t going to replace the larger, more powerful laptop computers but for the on the go person who doesn’t like a lot of baggage, the netbook is great, with a price that is more than perfect.
